Mien Tay bus station: where most delta trips start

Mien Tay (Western) bus station is the main terminal for coaches to the delta. Its operating company gives the address as 395 Kinh Duong Vuong, An Lac ward, Ho Chi Minh City — on the western edge of the city, towards the expressway. Its own website has a route search, though when we checked on 12 October 2026 it returned no results, so it is not yet a useful timetable.

Mien Tay is not the only boarding point. Ticket listings for Can Tho, Chau Doc and Rach Gia also show An Suong station and pick-up points in several city districts, and on some routes the new Mien Dong station. If your hotel is in the centre, a coach that boards in a central district can save the trip out to Mien Tay; the listing names the exact pick-up point.

Sleeper coach or limousine van

Two kinds of vehicle dominate the longer routes. Sleeper coaches are full-size buses with berths in two tiers; you lie half-reclined for the whole journey. "Limousine" is the name operators use for smaller vans with fewer, wider seats. Seat counts and layouts vary from company to company, so check the photo and seat plan on the listing.

The fares and times above are from operator listings on a ticket marketplace on 12 October 2026, for the Ho Chi Minh City – Can Tho route only. They are reference figures, not a quote; fares can change at holidays and differ by operator. On the same date, a Ho Chi Minh City – Chau Doc sleeper was listed at VND 210,000 and a Can Tho – Chau Doc coach at VND 125,000.

Buying a ticket

Tickets are sold in three ways, and most travellers use more than one over a trip:

  • At the station counter. Each operator has its own window. This works for frequent routes outside holidays, but you may wait for the next departure with seats.
  • On the operator's website or app. Larger companies sell online; FUTA (Phuong Trang), for example, runs futabus.vn. You choose a seat and the boarding point.
  • On a ticket marketplace. Sites such as Vexere and redBus list several operators side by side, which is useful for comparing times on the same day.

These names are examples of the types of seller, not recommendations. Whichever you use, read the boarding point and the drop-off point carefully: they decide how long the journey takes door to door more than the vehicle does.

Arriving: stations outside the centre

Several delta bus stations sit outside the town centres. In Can Tho, buses from Ho Chi Minh City arrive at a terminal about 4 km out; ticket listings name New Can Tho bus station, the Cai Rang area and O Mon among the drop-offs, and some vans stop at the airport. In Chau Doc, listings show the bus station on National Highway 91 in the Vinh My area and an operator stop on Phan Van Vang street. For Rach Gia, at least one operator lists the fast-boat pier as a drop-off — useful if you are going on to the islands the same day.

For the last few kilometres, Grab lists service in Can Tho, Rach Gia and the main towns of the former provinces, and metered taxis wait at the larger stations. In smaller towns, motorbike taxis are the usual option.

Luggage, children and night buses

We have not found a single rule on luggage size, child fares or seat allocation that applies across companies; each operator sets its own and prints it in the ticket conditions. Read them before you pay, especially for a large suitcase or a child who needs a seat.

Night buses run on the longer routes — listings show departures from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho and Chau Doc from around midnight to late evening. A few habits help: board at a station rather than a roadside pick-up, keep your passport, phone and money on you rather than in the hold, and note the vehicle's plate number when you board.

Local buses and onward links

Inside the delta, regional buses fill the gaps between towns and to sights outside them. In Dong Thap, for example, Vietnam Coracle reported in January 2026 that buses from Mien Tay to Cao Lanh leave at least hourly and take about four hours, and that a city bus, route 668, runs from Cao Lanh bus station to Tram Chim National Park every 30 minutes. Local routes like this change more often than intercity ones, so ask at the station before you set out.

When the bus is the wrong choice

  • You need to be somewhere at a fixed time early in the morning — a boat at 07:00, a border crossing, a flight — and the first bus would arrive too late.
  • Three or four of you, with luggage, on a leg where both stations are outside town: a car may cost little more per person and save two taxi rides.
  • You want to stop on the way. Buses do not wait while you look at a market or a pagoda.
  • It is the week of the Lunar New Year and you have not booked.

For those cases see independent routes for where to break the journey, or compare the route planner times by car and bus.

Common questions

Questions readers send

Which bus station in Ho Chi Minh City serves the Mekong Delta?

Mien Tay bus station, at 395 Kinh Duong Vuong in An Lac ward, is the main one. Some operators also board at An Suong, the new Mien Dong station or pick-up points in city districts.

What is a limousine van?

It is the name operators give to smaller vans with fewer, wider seats than a coach. They are usually quicker and dearer than a sleeper coach on the same route, with less space for luggage.

Should I book delta buses in advance?

On ordinary weekdays you can often buy on the day for frequent routes such as Can Tho. Book ahead for weekends, public holidays and anything around the Lunar New Year.

Do buses go to the ferry pier in Rach Gia?

Some do. On 12 October 2026 one operator on the Ho Chi Minh City – Rach Gia route listed the Rach Gia fast-boat pier as a drop-off point and another a stop at the Rach Gia pier. Check the listing for your departure.
